Pay & Charge

Exception rules are set up to tell CareFree that any call matching any particular criteria defined must be charged or paid at the rate set in the exception rule.

Creating an exception rule

Make sure the Edit Rules option is selected then click on New.

In the following example, we have set up an exception rule for a 30 minute weekday call that falls between 08:00 and 19:00. This means that should a call fall on a week day between 8am and 7pm and is between 25 minutes and 35 minutes long then charge £6.50.

We set this up by first giving the rule a name, then condition 1 states use this rule if the call is between 25 and 35 minutes long (treat it as 30 minutes). Condition 2 states use this rule if the call also appears on a weekday. Condition 6 states use this rule if the call falls between 8am and 7pm. So we can say if a call meets conditions 1, 2 and 6 then charge (or pay) £6.50. If a call doesn't match ANY of the conditions, CareFree will either look at the next exception rule or use the default hourly rate.

Exception Rule order

These rules are looked at in top-down fashion. In other words, the first rule on the list is looked at first, if a call does not meet all of the criteria set it will then look at the next rule in the list. It will keep doing this until it finds a rule that matches or failing a match it will then use the default hourly rate. The general rule of thumb is the more conditions you have ticked, the higher up the exception needs to be.

When adding new exception rules, the new rule is automatically placed at the bottom of the list. The order of the list can be changed in 2 ways. Right click on the rule and select one of the 2 options to move to the top or bottom,

or use the up and down arrows on the left of the list.

Rule #3 has been moved up 1 place by clicking on the up arrow.

Remember the exception rule order when creating new rules. In the above example, ALL calls matching the conditions will be set at £6.50. If you need to charge/pay a different amount for a call that matches all these conditions BUT also has a certain need then you will need to create a rule that includes the need and move it ABOVE this rule or it will never be reached!
